Dr. Joann Lianekhammy has been appointed as the interim Family and Consumer Sciences Unit Head and Program Leader.
Dr. Lianekhammy brings a wealth of experience and a strong record of leadership. She has served as a Senior Extension Specialist in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Extension, where her work is focused on improving the health and well‑being of individuals and families.
Dr. Lianekhammy is a valued member of the FCS Leadership Team. She previously led the USDA Rural Child Poverty Nutrition Center from 2015 to 2019, a multi-state initiative funded by a $2.5 million USDA Food and Nutrition Service grant to improve coordination among nutrition assistance programs and reduce child food insecurity in persistently disadvantaged rural areas. She has also served as the project manager for the CDC‑1809 High Obesity Program, promoting healthy eating and active living to help reduce rural obesity.
Additionally, Dr. Lianekhammy is the Co-Director of both the Family and Consumer Sciences Graduate Certificate and the Positive Youth Development Graduate Certificate.
